LOCAL RESTAURANT J PARRINO’S GOES SMOKEFREE 1/28/2010
Springfield, MO-On February 1, 2010 locally owned J Parrino’s Pasta House and Bar is quitting smoking. This is a significant change for the restaurant, which opened in 1983. “It wasn’t a decision we made lightly,” said Owner Ken Rigby. “We have many patrons who smoke and we of course value their business. But, I think it’s the right time to make this change. Like everyone else, we’re trying to make healthier choices.”
In 2000, Rigby purchased the restaurant from founder Jay Parrino. He has maintained the traditions that first popularized the establishment: traditional Sicilian cuisine, a pleasant casual atmosphere and exceptional service, but explained that smoking in the restaurant is an institution past its prime. “We moved the smoking section of the restaurant from the balcony to the bar several years ago, however we have had numerous requests from both our customers and our staff to eliminate it completely.
Rigby looks forward to what going smoke free will mean for J Parrino’s. “This is a positive change for us. We hope that a nonsmoking restaurant will be a more welcoming restaurant for our regular customers and we hope to see some new faces as well,” he said.
J Parrino’s is a locally owned Italian restaurant located in Springfield, Missouri. In addition to lunch and dinner seven days a week, J Parrino’s offers catering services, banquet facilities, a full bar and comprehensive wine list.
